With this SMDV High Volt Safe Hotshoe Adapter for Sony you can use your speedlite unit independently from your Sony or Minolta camera. Even if the camera itself doesn't have a sync port. This adapter adds the necessary sync port through the hotshoe of your camera.

Safe sync protection circuit
The SMDV Sm-512 hotshoe adapter for Sony has a safety circuit that limits the flash sync voltage of the flash or flash head to 3 Volts. This prevents your digital camera from malfunctioning when used with older speedlites or lightning systems. The hotshoe adapter runs on a CR2032 button cell battery. The battery is already placed in the hotshoe adapter and can easily be replaced if needed.
