Versatile, stable, robust
. The internal zoom wonderfully maximizes the versatility of this 24-70mm lens. Weather sealing is robust, and fewer moving parts are exposed to the elements: no need to worry about your gear, wherever you are. Furthermore, there's no weight shift : you can zoom without changing your grip. The lens barrel doesn't extend, so it doesn't get in the way during close-up shots.

Flexible on a gimbal
When shooting with a gimbal, the focal length can be changed thanks to the internal zoom, without having to rebalance the lens. The center of gravity remains constant – and every shot is perfect.
New optics for the S-Line:
The new optical design uses fewer lenses, but achieves a greater effect – with double-sided aspherical lenses and ED glass. Excellent image quality and reduced weight.

Adapted coatings:
Thanks to the anti-reflective meso-amorphic, ARNEO and adapted multi-layer Super-Integrated coatings, it is possible to photograph into the light without lens flare or ghosting.

Multi-Focusing System:

Softer, better-defined bokeh:
The new optics utilize precisely manufactured aspherical lenses – they shape the light as beautifully as possible. The bokeh in the background and foreground is clearly defined and so smoothly graduated that it looks like it was photographed with a fast prime lens.

Aperture with 11 rounded blades:
A new 11-blade aperture ensures a smoother bokeh. At the same time, the new optical design of the S-Line guarantees that point light sources such as stars and city lights are rendered sharply and clearly. Thanks to the consistently high aperture of f/2.8 and the impressive close-focus capability of this professional zoom lens, you can achieve cinematic close-ups – in any light and in any situation. It's not a macro lens – but almost.
With an impressively short minimum focusing distance of just 24 cm (at a focal length of 24 mm) to 33 cm (at 70 mm), you can get very close to your subject. The maximum magnification is 0.21x at 24 mm and 0.32x at 70 mm.
Precise control
Nikon's first control ring with click stops
provides tactile feedback during incremental adjustments. It offers smooth, silent, stepless operation.
The focus limiter
restricts the focus range to 33 cm across the entire zoom range for a constant working distance at all focal lengths.
Two assignable L-function buttons
ensure that whether shooting in portrait or landscape orientation, the button is conveniently located under the thumb.
