Advanced Light Measurement and Analysis
Designed for photographers, videographers, cinematographers, and gaffers, the Sekonic SPECTROMETER C-800 is an advanced field meter capable of measuring virtually all light sources including LED, flash, incandescent, HMI, fluorescent, and natural light. It features a 4.3" color touchscreen with 11 display modes that provide detailed analysis to help achieve desired lighting effects. The CMOS sensor measures light in 1nm increments, capturing color spikes especially useful for LED, HMI, fluorescent, and mixed lighting sources.
Spectral Similarity Index and Color Rendering Metrics
The meter incorporates the Spectral Similarity Index (SSI), developed by the Academy's Sci-Tech Council, allowing users to set any light as a standard or use predefined standards (e.g., CIE D55) and score other lights based on how well they match. It also measures TLCI (Television Lighting Consistency Index), TLMF (Television Lighting Matching Factor), TM-30-15 (Technical Memorandum), and CRI (Color Rendering Index), either individually or in two-light comparison mode.
Measurement Capabilities and Display Modes
The C-800 offers high accuracy, repeatability, and response with a wide measurement range. Flash color analysis supports selectable shutter speeds from 1 to 1/500 seconds. Ambient light measurement ranges from 1 to 200,000 lux (0.09 to 18,600 foot-candles). The intuitive touchscreen provides access to spectrum graphs, CRI, camera and lighting filter recommendations, white balance compensation, and multiple light comparisons.
Filter Recommendations and Multi-Light Comparison
The text mode displays color temperature, illuminance (lux or foot-candles), color compensation, and light balancing filters. Users can select preferred color balance, and the meter suggests actual Rosco, Lee, Kodak Wratten, or Fuji filters needed to achieve the target color temperature. The CRI screen shows standard color reference values (R1 through R15) as percentages of the light source's color accuracy. The multi-light screen reads and memorizes multiple light sources' color temperatures and compensation recommendations for comparison.
Color Control Parameters for Light Matching
The meter includes CIE1931 chromaticity coordinates (x, y) for precise color matching and hue and saturation measurements to better match RGB LEDs to other light sources. New display screens facilitate interpretation of these parameters, enhancing light matching capabilities.

Memory and Software Utility
The C-800 can store up to 99 data measurements in memory. A downloadable utility software allows easy meter settings and analysis of stored data on a computer.
