Optical Design and Performance
The Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens is designed for full-frame cameras. When used on APS-C sensor cameras, it provides an effective focal length of approximately 38mm. This lens excels in low-light indoor photography due to its wide f/1.4 aperture and exceptional focal plane sharpness. The nine rounded aperture blades contribute to smooth, pleasing bokeh.
The lens achieves a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.3 with a minimum focusing distance of 25 cm, allowing for close-up shots with fine detail.
Advanced Optical Elements
The optical construction consists of 15 elements arranged in 11 groups, incorporating both "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) glass and Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass to minimize chromatic aberrations, especially at the edges of the image. Aspherical elements are positioned towards the rear of the lens to improve wide-open performance, reducing distortion, axial chromatic aberration, and sagittal coma flare. This design also enhances peripheral brightness for consistent image quality across the frame.
Additional Features
- Full-time manual focus override: rotate the focus ring to instantly switch to manual focus even when autofocus is engaged
- Manufactured and tested in Japan using Sigma's proprietary MTF measuring system "A1" to ensure high optical performance
