Usage and Effects

Polarising filters are most effective when used at a 30-40 degree angle to reflective surfaces such as glass or water, where they eliminate glare and reflections. Their effect is minimal when the sun is directly overhead or at a 90-degree angle to the subject.

To deepen the blue of the sky and enhance cloud contrast, position the camera at a right angle to the sun when it is 30-40 degrees above the horizon. The filter also reduces atmospheric haze, which can cause distant scenery to appear bluish, resulting in clearer and more vibrant images.
