PGY RetroVa Grip Kit for iPhone 16 Pro

The PGY RetroVa Grip Kit adds classic camera-style controls to your iPhone 16 Pro for a more comfortable photography and video-recording experience. The grip features a physical shutter release, zoom lever, control dial and customisable buttons. Its built-in microSD slot supports direct recording of RAW photos and 4K video. Other features include a USB Type-C port for external recording, a 300 mAh battery, an Arca-compatible mount, a 1/4-inch tripod thread and MagSafe compatibility. The PGYTECH Pro Imaging App provides manual control over image settings and tools for creating an analogue-inspired look.

Classic Camera Design and Convenient Mounting

The RetroVa design takes inspiration from classic cameras, combining a silver finish with a black, lychee-grain leather-textured surface and a CNC-machined ring around the camera. The case is made from durable PC and retains a slim profile. The kit also uses aluminium alloy, microfibre and silicone. Its “Press to lock, twist to release” mounting system makes it quick to attach or remove the grip, so you can switch easily between everyday smartphone use and photography. The case supports MagSafe for use with compatible magnetic accessories, such as lights.

Physical Camera Controls

The physical controls provide access to key functions without needing to use the phone’s touchscreen. Half-press the shutter button to focus, press it fully to take a photo, or hold it down to start a burst of photos. The zoom lever switches focal lengths in Vintage Mode or adjusts zoom smoothly in Standard Mode. Used with the Mode button, the control dial can adjust settings such as ISO, exposure and white balance. The record button is customisable. The multifunction button controls power, quick start, mode selection, camera switching and Bluetooth pairing.

PGYTECH Pro Imaging App

The PGYTECH Pro Imaging App adds manual control over photographic settings, including shutter speed, ISO and white balance. Its retro-inspired interface helps you create an analogue-style look without post-processing. The app also supports instant-photo-style watermarks and custom frames. An image-processing feature reduces the iPhone’s default sharpening for a more natural-looking result.

microSD and External Recording

The grip’s microSD card slot lets you save RAW photos and 4K video directly to external storage. The USB 3.1 port supports external recording in formats including ProRes and HEVC, with data transfer speeds of up to 312 MB/s. This expands the iPhone’s video-recording options as well as providing a more comfortable camera grip. External recording of ProRes 4K at 60 fps or higher is not supported.

Optional Lens Accessories

The RetroVa system can be expanded with the 2.35× Master Telephoto Extender, available in other variants or sold separately. It uses 13 professional optical glass elements arranged in three groups. When paired with the iPhone 16 Pro, it provides a 282 mm focal length and 11.7× magnification; equivalent values reach up to 960 mm and 40×. The lens has an f/2.8 aperture, a resolution of 200 lp/mm and 2% distortion. Its multilayer nano-coating provides reflectance of less than 0.5%. Optional accessories include an adapter for 62 mm and 67 mm filters, a lightweight 2× telephoto lens with an adapter ring, and a protective pouch.

Mounting and Compatibility

The mount base is compatible with Arca-type quick-release plates and has a 1/4-inch thread for attaching the kit to a compatible tripod or other photography equipment. The grip weighs 63–65.4 g, adding functionality without significantly increasing the phone’s weight. The RetroVa system is available for iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. For future iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models, the case can be replaced while continuing to use the other RetroVa accessories.
