Canon Lens Hood EW-65 II

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. This helps to reduce lens flare and improve image contrast and quality.

In addition to controlling stray light, the extended design of the lens hood provides extra protection to the front element of the lens from accidental impacts and scratches.
