The Voigtlander Nokton 50 mm f/1.0 is the harbinger of an emerging legend. The brightest and sharpest lens in the Nokton lineup that impresses with phenomenal plasticity, excellent contrast and colour reproduction.
The Voigtlander lenses bearing the title Nokton are a line of super-bright lenses that allow work even with minimal ambient light. The new Nokton, with its f/1.0 aperture, pushes the boundaries even further by making light scarcity an asset. The extremely shallow depth of field achieved with the f/1.0 aperture makes it possible to take striking portraits or use it in artistic photography. When the aperture is closed Voigtlander 50 mm f/1.0 becomes a reference lens with excellent sharpness and microcontrast.
The optical design of the Nokton 50 mm f/1.0 is a veritable masterpiece. In a small barrel, for this brightness of a lens, 9 optical elements arranged in 7 groups are enclosed. To ensure the highest image quality, the lenses include a “floating” element, an aspherical lens on both sides and a crown pearl: a ground front aspherical lens with an ultra-high refractive index. It is thanks to these elements that the image generated by the lens captivates with quality and character.
The perfectly functioning twelve-blade aperture allows you to control the amount of light transmitted and makes out-of-focus blurs velvety smooth. The lens offers an adjustable setting range from f/1.0 to f/16, providing freedom when working with depth of field. The aperture value can be adjusted in 1/2 EV increments. The minimum focusing distance on Leica M-mount bodies is 90 cm.
The 50 mm is the classic, so-called standard focal length for cameras with full-frame sensors. Giving a 47.8° field of view, close to that seen by the human eye, it is one of the most frequently chosen focal lengths for portrait or reportage photography, guaranteeing an eye-pleasing perspective and depth of field.
The lens is equipped with a Leica M bayonet, designed for Leica and Voigtlander rangefinder cameras. Using the appropriate bayonet adapter, it can be mounted on any Canon R, Fuxjilim X, Nikon Z, Sony E or Micro 4/3 mirrorless camera. The lens covers the entire 35mm format frame with its image, as well as with slight vignetting the medium format sensors of Fujifilm and Hasselblad cameras.
Voigtlander lenses are renowned for their superior build quality. This is also the case with the Nokton 50 mm f/1.0. The entire barrel is made of metal, so the lens will maintain its accuracy for many years. The focus ring moves smoothly, but with the necessary resistance for precise operation.
