QIDI Box Multi-Filament System for the Plus 4 Series

The QIDI Box for the Plus 4 Series is a multi-filament system with four independent channels, designed for multicolour printing and use with different material types. It supports 1.75 mm filament, automatic spool switching, drying at up to 65°C during printing, temperature and humidity monitoring, and NFC recognition of compatible QIDI filaments. One QIDI Box holds four spools. With up to four units connected, the system can handle up to 16 colours or materials, supporting more complex projects with fewer manual filament changes.

Four independent channels and dual gearboxes

The feed system uses dual gearboxes made of hardened steel and four separate 42-type stepper motors, one for each channel. It is designed for common filaments as well as more demanding composite materials reinforced with carbon or glass fibre. Supported materials include PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PET, PA, PC, PVA and BVOH (after drying), PP, POM, HIPS, TPU 64D, and selected CF and GF materials.

Drying up to 65°C and humidity control

The QIDI Box can dry filament while printing, at a maximum temperature of 65°C. Its airtight storage compartment, together with the option to use desiccant, helps reduce the effects of moisture on filament, particularly hygroscopic materials. Temperature and humidity are monitored in real time, with readings available on the screen and in QIDI Studio software.

Automatic spool change and issue detection

Automatic filament refilling lets the printer switch to a spare spool when the material in use runs out. This reduces the risk of interrupting long prints and helps use the remaining filament on spools more efficiently. The system also detects filament shortages, tangles and jams to help maintain reliable feeding.

NFC and printing with support materials

NFC enables automatic recognition of compatible QIDI filaments and applies their settings without requiring manual parameter entry. The multi-material system can also use a separate support filament, including materials designed to snap off easily or dissolve, making it easier to print models with complex geometries. PVA and BVOH must be properly dried before use.

Compatibility and safety

Not every 1.75 mm filament is compatible with the QIDI Box. Unsupported materials include TPE, standard TPU, TPU 95A, QIDI PAHT-CF, damp PVA and BVOH, selected Silk filaments (including PLA Silk), glow-in-the-dark PLA, and other materials that are excessively stiff or flexible. A smart PTC fuse and two temperature sensors monitor operating conditions and automatically cut off the power supply if an abnormal temperature is detected.
