CoreXY FDM 3D printer

The ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 is an enclosed FDM 3D printer with a CoreXY design, built for high-speed printing with a wide range of filaments. It has a build volume of 256 × 256 × 256 mm, print speeds of up to 500 mm/s, default acceleration of 10,000 mm/s² and maximum acceleration of 20,000 mm/s². Its nozzle reaches 350°C. Automatic calibration, an enclosed chamber, a Dual-Gear Direct Extruder, a camera and multiple sensors simplify setup and help monitor printing. The printer is compatible with the separately sold CANVAS system for multicolour printing.

High-speed CoreXY motion

The CoreXY design supports speeds of up to 500 mm/s; the recommended print speed is 250 mm/s. Default acceleration is 10,000 mm/s², with a maximum of 20,000 mm/s² to help reduce print times. Two 4260 stepper motors independently drive the X and Y axes, while low-friction metal linear guides provide smooth movement. The integrated cast-aluminium frame and base help minimise vibration during high-speed operation, supporting stable printing and accuracy of ±0.1 mm.

Stable Z-axis guidance

Three trapezoidal screws and three metal linear guides provide stable build-plate guidance. The three-point support helps maintain the plate’s position throughout printing, particularly for taller models. Combined with the rigid aluminium frame, this provides a stable foundation for the high-speed CoreXY system and helps maintain consistency between layers.

High-temperature printing and material compatibility

The nozzle reaches temperatures of up to 350°C, and the enclosed chamber supports printing with both standard and more demanding materials. The printer uses 1.75 mm filament and supports PLA, PETG, TPU, PLA-CF, ABS, ABS-CF, ASA, ASA-CF, PET, PET-CF, PETG-CF, PC and PA, as well as selected PPS and PPA filaments. It has a 0.4 mm nozzle made from brass and hardened steel, a titanium-alloy thermal cut-off and a build plate that heats to 110°C. This configuration provides flexibility when selecting materials for different part requirements.

Automatic calibration and print monitoring

Full automatic calibration includes automatic levelling based on measurements at 121 points, reducing the need for manual adjustments before printing. A built-in camera lets you monitor the print, while the filament end sensor and clog detection help identify issues that could interrupt a job. Other features include automatic filament ejection, fan control and print recovery after a power loss.

Build volume and print surface

The 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume accommodates larger models or several smaller parts in one print. The double-sided spring-steel plate has a textured PEI surface on one side and a surface designed for PLA on the other. Layer thickness can be set from 0.1 to 0.4 mm, with 0.2 mm recommended, allowing you to balance detail and print time.

Connectivity and operation

The Centauri Carbon 2 is ready for multicolour printing with the compatible CANVAS system, sold separately. A 5-inch capacitive touchscreen provides printer control, while USB and Wi-Fi offer options for transferring prepared projects. Compatible software includes ElegooSlicer, Orca and Cura; supported input formats are STL, OBJ, 3MF and STEP, with G-code as the output format. Quiet motor controllers operate on all axes, keeping noise at or below 45 dB. The printer also includes LED lighting and a HEPA filter with an activated-carbon layer.
