Camera Talkback and Connectivity
The Blackmagic ATEM Talkback Converter 4K supports up to 8 cameras for SDI talkback using embedded audio channels 15 and 16, compatible with Blackmagic Studio Cameras and ATEM Camera Converter. It supports 12G-SDI for all SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60, providing BNC connections for each camera and an optical fiber socket for adding an SFP module to extend camera distances.

ATEM Studio and Camera Converters
These converters enable positioning cameras at long distances from the switcher using low-cost optical fiber, allowing connections up to 45 kilometers (28 miles) away with full bi-directional video, audio, talkback, and tally signals.
Live Camera Connections
Ideal for live music and sporting events, the converters allow remote camera placement such as race tracks or stages. Up to 4 ATEM Camera Converters can connect to each ATEM Studio Converter, enabling multiple camera talkback embedded in channels 15 and 16 of the optical fiber SDI connection.
Design and Construction
The ATEM Camera Converter converts SDI or HDMI camera output to optical fiber with embedded audio and talkback. It features a lightweight, machined aluminum design with an internal long-life battery for portability. The ATEM Studio Converter is rack-mountable with 4 bi-directional optical fiber connections, converting optical fiber input to SDI and de-embedding audio via XLR connectors.
Optical Fiber Link
Utilizes industry-standard single-mode optical fiber cable with LC connectors, supporting distances up to 45 km (28 miles) at 1310 nm wavelength, exceeding traditional copper cable limits.
Talkback and Tally
- Talkback uses embedded audio channels 15 and 16 for communication with camera operators.
- ATEM Camera Converter supports PC or iPhone style headsets; ATEM Studio Converter supports aviation headsets and includes a built-in microphone and speaker.
- Tally support includes red LED indicators on the camera converter and red tally borders on SDI and HDMI monitoring outputs to indicate on-air status.
