Design and Optical Performance

The Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Cine lens features a unique long tubular barrel design that provides a distinctive bug-eye perspective. Despite the close working distance, the 408 mm (1.3 feet) length of the lens places the camera at a comfortable distance from the subject. The wide-angle 24mm focal length offers greater depth of field compared to traditional telephoto macro lenses, allowing more background detail and less subject isolation.

The optical construction includes 27 elements in 19 groups, incorporating two extra-low dispersion elements and one extra refractive index element to ensure high clarity, color accuracy, and sharpness by suppressing chromatic and spherical aberrations.

The front 20 mm diameter allows for unique "slide-in" shots and easier front lighting of close-up subjects. The waterproof front section enables shooting just beneath water surfaces or in challenging environments.
