The Thypoch Simera-C 28mm T1.5 is a compact full-frame cine prime lens designed for professional video production. Weighing approximately 377 grams, it is ideal for handheld shooting, use on gimbals, or in confined spaces such as inside vehicles. Its compact size and lightweight aluminum alloy construction enhance maneuverability and creative flexibility in challenging shooting environments.
Optical Design and Image Quality
The lens features an optical construction of 11 elements in 7 groups, including 1 aspherical element, 1 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element, and 3 high refractive index (HRI) elements. This advanced optical design ensures high resolution and excellent correction of chromatic aberrations, making it suitable for 8K video production. Multiple high-refractive-index coatings minimize flare and ghosting, delivering high contrast and a clean image even under strong backlighting conditions.
Aperture and Bokeh Characteristics
With a consistent T-stop range from T1.5 to T16, the lens offers high light transmission for expressive depth of field and spatial separation. It incorporates 16 aperture blades, which produce smooth, round bokeh with controlled reflections, enhancing subject separation and providing a pronounced three-dimensional effect. This is an improvement over the 14-blade aperture found in the photographic version of the Simera lens.
Mount and Compatibility
The lens uses a Leica M mount, providing wide compatibility across various camera systems. Using standard M-mount adapters, it can be mounted on mirrorless cameras with E, RF, Z, L, and X mounts. Additionally, with the lockable M-ARRI adapter, it is compatible with ARRI ALEXA Mini LF, ALEXA Mini, AMIRA, and other ARRI systems. This versatility allows seamless integration with both entry-level mirrorless cameras and high-end cinema setups such as DJI Ronin 4D, Sony Venice, and ARRI cameras.
