Product details

30th Anniversary Edition

Celebrating 30 years of GR cameras, this limited-edition Ricoh GR IV kit combines the compact fixed-lens camera with exclusive anniversary details and accessories. The GR series began in October 1996 and is known for its portable design and image quality.

  • Special-colour shutter-release and rear buttons inspired by the plated finish of the original film GR1.
  • A GR 30th anniversary graphic appears when the camera is switched off.
  • Exclusive GN-3 (30th) ring cap with a diamond-cut design inspired by the GR1 lens area. Its surfaces catch the light when the lens is retracted, while the cap is designed to prevent reflections from appearing on subjects during shooting.
  • Genuine leather finger strap engraved with “30th ANNIVERSARY” on the reverse.
  • Steel-grey GK-2 (30th) metal hot-shoe cover, engraved with the anniversary logo on the front and “RICOH GR” on the reverse.
  • Set of 16 pin badges: 14 representing past GR models, one kit-exclusive 30th anniversary logo and one GR logo.

Sensor, Processor and Autofocus

The GR IV pairs a 25.7-megapixel APS-C back-illuminated CMOS sensor with the GR ENGINE 7 processor for detailed images and reduced noise. It supports sensitivities up to ISO 204800 and records 14-bit DNG raw files or JPEGs. The processor enables a start-up time of approximately 0.6 seconds and improves low-light performance by about one stop compared with its predecessor.

Autofocus is faster and more responsive, with reduced focus hunting and improved face recognition and subject tracking. Face and eye detection identifies the subject and indicates the focus position on the LCD; when multiple faces are detected, the camera distinguishes the main subject from others. Improved low-light image quality also supports faster, more accurate focusing in difficult lighting.

  • Full Press Snap overrides autofocus when the shutter is fully pressed, immediately focusing at a preset distance for responsive street photography.
  • Snap Distance-Priority AE (Sn) prioritises a selected depth-of-field effect when setting exposure.
  • Snap Distance Priority and a focus limiter support quick, distance-based focusing.

Lens and Image Stabilisation

The fixed 18.3 mm f/2.8 lens provides a 28 mm-equivalent angle of view. Its redesigned seven-element, five-group optical construction includes aspherical, high-refractive-index and low-dispersion elements for improved sharpness and resolution, while its lighter design supports faster focusing and deployment. The wide-angle view and bright maximum aperture suit everyday photography, street scenes and travel.

  • Macro mode focuses at a working distance of approximately 6.1–11.9 cm.
  • Built-in two-stop ND filter allows wider apertures or slower shutter speeds for depth-of-field and motion-blur effects.
  • 35 mm- and 50 mm-equivalent crop modes provide narrower fields of view.
  • Five-axis Shake Reduction compensates for camera movement by up to six stops, supporting handheld shooting in low light.

Exposure and Image Controls

  • In Program AE, Program Auto Ex allows quick switching to Aperture Priority using the front e-Dial or Shutter Priority using the rear e-Dial.
  • The sensor has no anti-aliasing filter to maximise sharpness. For scenes with high-frequency patterns, the Shake Reduction mechanism can simulate an anti-aliasing filter to help reduce moiré.
  • In-camera multiple exposure supports unlimited sequential exposures.
  • Metering options include Multi-Segment, Centre-Weighted, Spot and Highlight-Weighted. Highlight-Weighted metering helps keep highlights within the dynamic range while allowing shadows to remain darker.
  • Image Control offers 12 preset modes, including a Cinema mode with Yellow or Green tone. Saturation, contrast, hue, key and grain can be adjusted; selected settings also allow strength and size adjustments. Custom settings can be saved as a mode.

Body, Display and Connectivity

The slim, portable body is built from lightweight, rigid magnesium alloy. Redesigned controls improve access, and the ADJ lever has been replaced by a dial. The rear 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD has approximately 1.04 million dots and an air-gapless design to reduce reflections. Outdoor Monitor Setting boosts screen brightness, while Auto monitor brightness adjusts it to ambient light.

  • DB-120 battery provides approximately 250 shots per charge.
  • 53 GB of built-in memory and a microSD card slot.
  • USB-C supports in-camera battery charging and data transfer.
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connect the camera to mobile devices through the GR WORLD app for image transfer, remote shutter release and location-data transfer.

Video and Accessories

The camera records Full HD 1920 × 1080 video at 60p, 30p or 24p.

The hot shoe supports optional external flashes, including the slim GF-2, which offers Auto Flash mode, a guide number of 3 m at ISO 100 and a rechargeable internal lithium-ion battery charged via USB-C. The optional BJ-12 charger can charge two DB-120 batteries simultaneously. Removing the GN-3 ring cap allows attachment of the optional GA-3 lens adapter for 49 mm screw-on filters or the GW-4 Wide Conversion Lens.
