Polarizing Filter Functionality

Light rays reflected from surfaces become polarized. Polarizing filters control which light rays enter the camera lens, effectively removing unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass. They also enhance color saturation and contrast. The polarization effect is visible through the viewfinder and can be adjusted by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the filter's rotation and its orientation relative to the sun.

Usage Scenarios

This filter is ideal for outdoor photography, such as capturing cloud-filled skies or enhancing the saturation of water at the beach or in mountainous areas. It can increase or decrease reflections on water or glass surfaces, making it versatile for various shooting conditions. When shooting black and white, using a red filter can simulate a threatening storm effect.

Hoya HRT Technology

The Hoya HRT circular polarizing filter features a High Rate Transmission film that allows more visible light to pass through while maintaining the same degree of polarization. This design permits approximately 1/3 stop more light intake compared to standard polarizers, benefiting digital and HD technology cameras and lenses. The polarizing film technology is also used in the latest HD LCD TVs.

The filter glass also has UV absorbing properties, making the HRT a combined UV and circular polarizing filter.
