Improved Wireless Range and Control
The Canon Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 builds upon the popular EL flash series by enhancing wireless capabilities with a 67% increase in transmission range, now reaching up to 50 meters (164 feet). It supports radio-based TTL and manual wireless flash control and is compatible with previous Canon radio wireless flash units and transmitters. The unit features a classic EL-series joystick and select dial for intuitive operation and customization.
Advanced Flash Performance
With a guide number of 60 meters (196.9 feet) at ISO 100 and 200mm zoom position, the EL-5 Ver. 2 delivers reliable and stable flash output. It offers a wide flash power range from full power (1/1) down to 1/1024, suitable for diverse shooting scenarios from bright daylight to subtle fill lighting. The flash recycles quickly, enabling fast-paced shooting with recycle times as low as 0.1 seconds and up to 1.2 seconds at full power.
Power and Battery
The flash is powered by a rechargeable LP-EL lithium-ion battery (included), capable of delivering approximately 350 full-power flashes per charge. It supports continuous firing up to 95 times and can achieve up to 2450 flashes at minimum power. The battery is charged using a separately available LC-E6 charger.
Compatibility and Mounting
The EL-5 Ver. 2 is designed exclusively for Canon EOS mirrorless cameras equipped with Canon's multi-function shoe. It cannot be mounted on Canon DSLR cameras or EOS R-series cameras with the original 5-pin hot shoe. The multi-function shoe enables advanced communication and integrated control between the camera and flash unit.
Custom Flash Modes and App Control
The flash supports custom flash modes allowing quick switching between E-TTL auto flash, manual, and preset individual values, which is especially useful in dynamic lighting conditions such as weddings. It can link flash custom modes (C1, C2, C3) with compatible camera shooting modes for seamless recall. Additionally, the EL-5 Ver. 2 can be controlled remotely via the Canon Camera Connect app on Android and iOS devices, enabling adjustments to flash intensity, compensation, sync settings, multi-flash control, and flash exposure bracketing (FEB) without touching the camera or flash.
