Optical Performance

The SmallRig 6736 3.5x Telephoto Lens for Phone features a multi-layer HD optical coating that improves light transmission while reducing glare and color cast for clearer images and more natural color.

Installation

Installation takes three steps: attach the mounting clip, align the lens with the T-mount, then twist to lock it securely in place.

Usage Notes

  • Use this lens only with a smartphone’s telephoto camera, not its main or wide-angle camera. It works effectively with phones offering 4x, 5x, or 8x telephoto magnification.
  • For optimal performance, use a third-party camera app that supports manually activating or locking the telephoto camera, such as Lightroom, Indigo, Blackmagic Camera, Fotorgear, or ProCam.
  • When using the iPhone’s built-in Camera app, turn off Macro Control (14 mm lens).
  • The minimum focusing distance is 8 m. If the subject is closer than 8 m, the phone may switch to its main camera, which can cause severe vignetting.
  • Align the lens opening precisely with the phone camera to avoid vignetting. Since telephoto magnification varies by phone model, a slight zoom-in adjustment may be needed to reduce vignetting.
  • To reduce blur caused by camera shake, use a tripod or other support.
