Compact full-frame camera for photography and cinema
The Sigma fp2 continues the compact, box-shaped design of the fp series while refining its controls and capabilities for still photography and video production. Its 24.5-megapixel partially stacked full-frame CMOS sensor provides fast readout, advanced autofocus and broad dynamic range, with reduced rolling-shutter distortion. The camera uses the L-Mount and has a dust- and splash-resistant construction; it is suitable for light rain but is not waterproof.
A dedicated switch changes between STILL and CINE modes, each with a tailored interface and workflow. The compact body can be configured for uses ranging from vlogging and documentary work to film and television production. The tilting 3.15-inch, approximately 2.1-million-dot touchscreen moves up by approximately 90° and down by 45°.
Image capture and autofocus
- Effective resolution: 24.5 megapixels; aspect ratio: 3:2.
- Still formats: 14-bit lossless-compressed DNG RAW, JPEG (Exif 3.0), or RAW and JPEG together.
- Image sizes: RAW and JPEG 6016 × 4012; crop mode 3840 × 2560, equivalent to approximately 1.5× the focal length.
- Selectable image aspect ratios: 21:9, 16:9, 3:2, A size, 4:3, 6×7 and 1:1.
- Image-plane phase-detection and contrast-detection autofocus, with single, continuous, tracking and manual focus modes. Subject detection supports people, dogs, cats and birds, with Eye AF.
- AF sensitivity: −5 to +18 EV (F1.4, ISO 100), with six selectable steps. Additional focus tools include AF+MF, magnified manual focus, focus peaking, release/focus priority and linear or non-linear focus-ring control.
- Continuous shooting at 20, 8, 5 or 3 frames per second. At 20 fps, the camera records up to 200 JPEG or 180 DNG frames; at 8 fps, up to 3000 JPEG or 630 DNG frames.
- Electronic shutter with speeds from 1/25,600 to 30 seconds, plus Bulb exposure up to 5 minutes. Self-timer settings: 2 or 10 seconds.
- Drive modes include single, continuous, self-timer, interval timer with movie output, exposure bracketing, focus bracketing and white-balance bracketing.
Exposure and colour
- Still and movie exposure modes: Program AE, Shutter Speed Priority AE, Aperture Priority AE and Manual.
- Base ISO: 320 and 2500 for stills; 320 and 2500 for MOV video; 1250 and 10,000 for Log and RAW video.
- Selectable ISO range: 100–102,400 for stills, with expanded settings of ISO 6, 12, 25 and 50. For MOV video: ISO 100–102,400; for Log and RAW: ISO 1250–102,400, with expanded ISO 320 and 640.
- Exposure compensation: ±5 EV in 1/3-stop increments. Exposure bracketing supports 3 or 5 frames and up to 3 EV, in 1/3-stop steps; sequence can be changed.
- Evaluative and spot metering; metering range −5 to +18 EV (50 mm F1.4, ISO 100). Exposure aids include waveform and histogram brightness displays, zebra pattern and false colour.
- White balance offers nine types: Auto, Auto with lighting-source priority, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Overcast, Flash, Shade and Manual in 50 K steps. Up to 10 custom settings can be added.
- Thirteen colour modes, selectable using the dedicated Color button: Standard, Rich, Calm, Powder Blue, Warm Gold, Teal and Orange, FOV Classic Blue, FOV Classic Yellow, Forest Green, Sunset Red, Cinema, 709 Look and Monochrome.
Video and audio
The camera records 6K Open Gate video using the full sensor area, allowing footage to be reframed for different aspect ratios and delivery formats. It supports up to 14.1 stops of dynamic range; at ISO 1250 and above, 7 stops of highlight headroom are available for grading. Electronic image stabilisation is available for video only.
- Recording formats: ProRes RAW HQ and ProRes RAW (12-bit); MOV with H.264, H.265 or L-Log.
- 6K frame rates: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 47.95, 48, 50 and 59.94 fps. 6K cannot be combined with electronic image stabilisation.
- 4K frame rates: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 47.95, 48, 50 and 59.94 fps; crop mode also supports 100 and 119.88 fps.
- 2K frame rates: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 47.95, 48, 50, 59.94, 100 and 119.88 fps; 2K uses the 16:9 aspect ratio only.
- ProRes RAW HQ and ProRes RAW support up to 6K at 29.97 fps. 47.95 fps is available only in ProRes RAW HQ or ProRes RAW; 48 fps is not available in H.264.
- Video aspect ratios: 3:2, 16:9, 17:9 and 4:3, except 2K, which is 16:9 only.
- Audio recording: Linear PCM, 4-channel 96 kHz or 2-channel 192 kHz at 24-bit; 32-bit float, 4-channel 96 kHz or 2-channel 192 kHz.
- Built-in stereo microphone and monaural speaker. External microphone input: 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack with plug-in power, or USB audio. Headphone monitoring is supported via USB.
- Continuous movie recording time is specified as up to 2 hours; battery-based movie recording is approximately 130 minutes.
ProRes RAW supports flexible post-production, while L-Log is designed for grading in a range of software. The Director’s Viewfinder function simulates the shooting areas of supported cinema cameras and includes anamorphic desqueeze ratios of 1.25×, 1.3×, 1.33×, 1.5×, 1.6×, 1.65×, 1.8× and 2.0×. Supported camera systems include ARRI ARRICAM, ARRIFLEX, ALEXA LF, ALEXA Mini LF, ALEXA Mini, AMIRA and ALEXA 35 Xtreme; Sony VENICE, VENICE 2 6K, VENICE 2 8K and BURANO; and RED MONSTRO 8K, HELIUM 8K, DRAGON 6K, EPIC MX 5K, GEMINI 5K, V-RAPTOR XL [X] and KOMODO X.
Storage, connectivity and functions
- Approximately 70 GB of built-in storage, an SDXC card slot with UHS-II support, and recording to a portable SSD over USB 3.2 with USB bus power. Internal storage can provide continued recording when a memory card is full.
- USB Type-C port 1: USB 2.0, supporting UAC, cable release, EVF, charging and USB Power Delivery. Port 2: USB 3.2, supporting mass storage, UVC, UAC, cable release, charging and USB Power Delivery.
- HDMI Type A, version 2.1; remote cable release via USB; timecode input, also usable as an external microphone terminal.
- Flash modes: TTL auto, manual, wireless and multi-flash. Functions include red-eye reduction, slow and rear-curtain synchronisation, and flash exposure compensation up to ±3 EV in 1/3-EV steps. Maximum sync speed is 1/50 s, or 1/60 s or slower in crop mode.
- External flash is supported with the optional HOT SHOE UNIT HU-21, which has a flash communication terminal shared with OM SYSTEM and LUMIX. A dedicated flash-sync terminal is available with the unit attached.
- Other functions include saving and loading settings by QR code, screenshots, webcam use, in-camera DNG development, still-image capture from recorded movies, Fill Light during in-camera DNG development, and Gyroflow support.
Viewfinder and accessories
The optional ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER EVF-21 attaches and detaches via USB-C. It has a 0.5-inch OLED panel with approximately 5.76 million dots, an eye sensor, a large eyecup and a tilting mechanism that angles upwards by up to 90° for eye-level or waist-level shooting. The optional LCD VIEWFINDER LVF-21 mounts over the rear screen to reduce stray light, magnifies the display 2.5× and includes dioptre adjustment from −2 to +1 dpt. The BASE PLATE BPL-21 supports the LVF-21 and provides a 3/8-inch screw for video accessories.
Other optional accessories include HAND GRIP HG-11, HOT SHOE UNIT HU-21, CABLE RELEASE CR-51, BATTERY CHARGER BC-91 and DC CONNECTOR CN-91. The camera’s strap-holder and tripod screw holes use the common 1/4-inch size for compatibility with a range of accessories.
Power, construction and dimensions
- Uses the LI-ION BATTERY PACK BP-91; USB Power Delivery and DC power via the optional DC CONNECTOR CN-91 are also supported. A USB AC adapter rated at 27 W or higher is recommended.
- Approximate battery life: 370 still images or 130 minutes of movie recording. Battery life is approximately 30% longer than that of the original fp.
