The TAMRON 28-75mm F2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063) features a completely redesigned optical construction with 17 elements in 15 groups. It incorporates two LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements arranged optimally to minimize optical aberrations. This design delivers high resolving power across the entire frame at all focal lengths, along with soft, beautiful bokeh characteristic of fast-aperture lenses. Compared to the first-generation Model A036, this lens achieves significant improvements in resolution and overall image quality while maintaining a lightweight and compact form factor. It is well suited for diverse photographic genres including street photography, portraiture, landscapes, and family events.
High-Speed, High-Precision Autofocus
Equipped with a VXD linear motor focus mechanism, the autofocus system offers exceptional responsiveness and precision. The AF speed is approximately twice as fast as the first-generation Model A036, providing reliable and rapid focusing from the minimum object distance (MOD) to infinity. The lens also features excellent focus tracking, making it ideal for capturing fast-moving subjects. Additionally, the AF motor operates quietly, supporting both still photography and videography in noise-sensitive environments.
Close Focusing and Magnification
The lens achieves a minimum object distance of 0.18 m (7.1 in) at the 28 mm wide-angle end, an improvement over the previous generation. This allows for powerful close-up shots emphasizing wide-angle perspective effects, with a working distance of approximately 4.4 cm (1.7 in) at MOD. The maximum magnification ratio at this focal length is 1:12.7, enabling wide macro photography. At the telephoto end (75 mm), the MOD is 0.38 m (15 in) with a magnification ratio of 1:14.1, allowing close-up shooting with greater working distance.
Customizable Lens Functions via TAMRON Lens Utility
The second-generation Model A063 supports the TAMRON Lens Utility software, which connects to the lens via the optional TAMRON Connection Cable and Connector Port. This software allows users to customize lens functions and update firmware, providing flexible shooting options tailored to still photography or videography needs.
