The Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero D is a prime wide-angle lens designed for Canon EOS M mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors. Despite its ultra-wide 9mm focal length, it offers excellent control over distortion and chromatic aberration, delivering superior sharpness from the center to the edges of the frame.
The lens provides a wide 113° viewing angle, equivalent to a 14mm lens on a full-frame camera. Its optical construction consists of 15 elements arranged in 10 groups, including three low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements, ensuring high-quality imaging across the entire frame.
Aperture and Focusing
The lens features a 7-blade diaphragm for smooth depth of field control, with an aperture range from f/2.8 to f/22. It has a minimum focusing distance of just 12 centimeters, allowing for close-up wide-angle shots. The aperture ring is designed for smooth, gradual adjustment.
Build and Additional Features
The front element is coated with a "Frog Eye Coating" to resist dust and dirt. Its low-profile design includes a 49mm filter thread, enabling the use of filters. The lens is compact and lightweight, weighing only 215 grams, making it ideal for daily use as well as for aerial photography with drones and gimbals.
