The Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero D is a prime wide-angle lens designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors. It offers an ultra-wide 113° viewing angle, equivalent to a 14mm focal length on full-frame cameras. The lens features a sophisticated optical construction of 15 elements in 10 groups, including three low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements, which ensure excellent control of distortion and chromatic aberration, delivering superior sharpness from the center to the edges of the frame.
Aperture and Focus
The lens has a bright maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a minimum aperture of f/22, controlled by a 7-blade diaphragm that provides smooth depth of field control. It includes a smoothly operating aperture ring and a minimum focusing distance of just 12 centimeters, allowing for close-up wide-angle shots.
Build and Additional Features
The front element is coated with a "Frog Eye Coating" to repel dust and dirt, enhancing durability and ease of maintenance. Despite its advanced optical design, the lens remains compact and lightweight, weighing only 215 grams, making it ideal for daily use, as well as for aerial photography with drones and stabilized shooting on gimbals. The lens also features a 49mm filter thread for easy attachment of filters.
