Optical Design and Build
This lens, developed in collaboration with Schneider-Kreuznach, combines a modern optical design with user-friendly handling. Despite its extremely wide focal length range, it weighs only 441 g. The compact construction helps reduce equipment size without compromising image quality or versatility.
The optical construction consists of 15 elements in 11 groups, including ASP, HR, and ED lens elements, ensuring sharp and detailed results from the center to the edges of the frame. The bright F2.8 aperture provides strong low-light performance, making the lens suitable for night landscapes and astrophotography.
Filter Compatibility and Creative Control
Unlike many ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses, the AF 14–24 mm F2.8 L supports 77 mm front filters. This facilitates the use of ND and polarizing filters, offering photographers and cinematographers greater creative control when shooting landscapes, long exposures, video, and outdoor scenes.
Close Focusing and Autofocus Features
With a minimum focusing distance of only 0.18 m and up to 0.26x magnification, the lens allows bold close-up compositions with dramatic wide-angle perspective. The fast and quiet Linear STM autofocus ensures reliable focusing for both photography and video.
