Versatile Super-Telephoto Zoom
The Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS Sports is a full-frame super-telephoto zoom lens for L-Mount cameras. Combining the reach, speed and optical quality of a super-telephoto prime with the flexibility of a zoom, it is designed for sports, wildlife and other distant action subjects. Its constant maximum aperture of f/4 provides a bright view for working in available light and controlling depth of field, while offering an alternative to carrying several telephoto prime lenses.
Internal zoom and internal focusing keep the lens’s overall length constant during operation and help maintain a stable centre of gravity for predictable handling on a monopod or tripod. The aperture range is f/4 to f/22.
Optical Performance
Low-dispersion and high-refractive-index glass elements help deliver clarity, sharpness and colour accuracy throughout the zoom and focusing ranges while controlling chromatic aberrations. A front Nano Porous Coating (NPC) reduces flare and ghosting to maintain contrast.
Autofocus and Stabilisation
A high-thrust HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) moves the lightweight focusing group quickly for responsive focus changes and tracking of fast-moving subjects. Four AFL buttons provide convenient focus control while tracking. Focus Mode and Focus Limiter switches allow adjustment of focus operation and range.
The configurable function ring offers two modes. Focus Preset Mode shifts focus to a registered position when the ring is turned. Power Focus Mode provides constant-speed focus pulling for video, with two selectable speed settings.
The optical stabilisation system, powered by Sigma’s OS2 algorithm, compensates for up to 5.5 stops of camera shake at 600mm. It uses a dedicated drive unit, actuator and high-precision sensor. OS Mode 1 is intended for general photography and video, while OS Mode 2 is designed for panning and stabilises movement horizontally, vertically or diagonally, regardless of camera orientation.
Construction and Handling
- Durable magnesium-alloy barrel with dust- and splash-resistant seals for use in challenging conditions.
- Water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element for easier cleaning.
- Thermal-insulation paint helps prevent overheating in extreme temperatures.
- Rotating tripod collar with detents at 90° intervals; the removable tripod foot is compatible with Arca-type clamps.
- Drop-in filter holder accepts 40.5mm filters. Optional variable ND and circular polarising drop-in filters are also available.
Compatibility and Included Accessories
This L-Mount version is compatible with the optional Sigma TC-1411 and TC-2011 teleconverters and the UD-11 USB Dock for firmware updates and settings adjustments. Included accessories are a matching lens hood, a backpack-style protective case, a removable tripod foot and a drop-in filter holder.
