50mm f/1.4 DG Contemporary Lens
The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG Contemporary is a compact, full-frame standard prime lens for L-Mount cameras. Its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture supports shooting in low light and creates soft backgrounds with strong subject separation. Designed for portrait, lifestyle and everyday photography, it combines a classic rendering character with responsive autofocus.
Optical performance
- Aperture range: f/1.4 to f/16.
- One FLD element and three aspherical elements help control distortion and ghosting for clear images.
- Designed for use wide open at f/1.4, the lens produces gentle softness within the focus plane, smooth bokeh and attractive background rendering. Its classic image character creates a natural sense of depth across the frame.
Focus and handling
- The Rotary Direct Drive focusing system uses coils and magnets arranged in a circle to match the lens barrel. This provides a slim, high-torque autofocus mechanism without significantly increasing the lens diameter.
- The whole-lens focusing system delivers autofocus performance, though it is slower than STM or HLA systems and is less suited to video autofocus.
- Manual focus can be engaged by turning the focus ring. The lens has no AF/MF switch.
- A physical aperture ring and depth-of-field and distance scales contribute to a tactile, classic shooting experience.
Construction and design
- Part of Sigma’s I Series, combining optical performance with a compact, portable design for mirrorless cameras.
- All-metal lens barrel with knurled focus and aperture rings.
- Dust- and splash-resistant design.
- Includes a knurled metal lens hood and a magnetic metal lens cap.
- Length: approximately 55.9 mm. Weight: approximately 374 g.
