The Fujinon XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR is a fast standard zoom lens with a constant f/2.8 aperture, designed to deliver best-in-class image quality. It consists of 17 elements arranged in 12 groups, including three aspherical elements to control spherical aberration and distortion, and three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements to reduce lateral chromatic aberration at wide angles and axial chromatic aberration at telephoto settings. This optical construction ensures sharpness from edge to edge throughout the entire zoom range.
Aperture and Bokeh
The lens features nine rounded aperture blades that create smooth, circular bokeh. The advanced suppression of spherical aberration enhances the quality of bokeh both in front of and behind the focus plane, producing beautiful background blur effects.
Coatings and Image Clarity
Fujifilm's proprietary HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) is applied across the entire lens surface to minimize ghosting and flare, resulting in sharp and clear images. Additionally, the newly developed Nano-GI (Gradient Index) coating technology modifies the refractive index between glass and air to effectively reduce ghosting and flare caused by diagonal incident light.
Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO)
When paired with an X Series camera body equipped with Lens Modulation Optimizer technology, the lens performance is further enhanced. LMO corrects diffraction effects to produce images with edge-to-edge sharpness and a realistic three-dimensional appearance, even when shooting at small apertures.
Autofocus Performance
The lens incorporates a Twin Linear Motor system that reduces the weight of the focusing lens elements, enabling high-speed and quiet autofocus operation. It achieves an autofocus speed as fast as 0.06 seconds when combined with an X Series camera body featuring Phase Detection AF. This fast and near-silent autofocus allows discreet shooting in quiet environments.
Durability and Weather Resistance
The Fujinon XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR lens is weather-resistant and dust-resistant, with seals applied to every part of the barrel. It is capable of operating in temperatures as low as -10°C, making it an ideal companion for rugged shooting conditions and perfectly matched to the Fujifilm X-T1 camera body, which offers similar environmental protection.
