The Hoya 55mm Variable Density II Filter features a thinner frame compared to its predecessor, reducing the vignette effect commonly encountered with wide-angle lenses. This slim double-ring design enhances handling and minimizes darkening at the corners of images.

Adjustable Neutral Density Range

This filter offers a variable neutral density range from ND3 to ND400, equivalent to 1.5 to 9 stops of light reduction. A dedicated precision rotation knob allows smooth and accurate adjustment of the density level to control exposure effectively.

Enhanced Exposure Control and Creative Effects

By adjusting the amount of light entering the camera, the filter enables greater control over exposure settings. Photographers can use wider apertures for depth of field control or slower shutter speeds to create motion blur effects, such as smooth water flow or blurred moving vehicles.

Lens Cap Compatibility

The filter supports attachment of lens caps that are one size larger than the filter thread size. For example, a 55mm filter requires a 58mm lens cap. The widened front frame is intentionally designed to prevent vignetting while accommodating this feature.
