The Unitree R1 Air is a lightweight humanoid robot approximately 123 cm tall, designed as an open platform for robotics and artificial intelligence development. Its compact design and dynamic movement allow it to move steadily, climb stairs and respond to obstacles in its environment. Intuitive controls and support for popular simulation environments facilitate algorithm testing and development.
With 20 degrees of freedom, the robot moves smoothly and confidently in spaces designed for people. It can navigate stairs, avoid obstacles and adapt its movements to environmental conditions. Its dynamic yet controlled motion makes it suitable for testing and demonstrations where natural humanoid movement is important.
Movement and Programming
The R1 Air supports the programming of complex movement sequences, including transitions, choreography and martial arts-inspired demonstrations. The platform provides direct access to joint and sensor controls, allowing users to define actions, combine them into sequences and build behavioural scenarios.
The system supports integration with large multimodal language and vision models, as well as popular simulation environments. This helps transfer algorithms from virtual environments to real-world testing and can shorten the development path from prototype to practical application.
Environmental Awareness and Communication
A monocular camera provides visual data for spatial orientation, navigation, obstacle avoidance and responses to changes in the environment. The integrated audio system includes a speaker and a four-microphone array, enabling voice-command responses, message playback and pre-programmed interactive scenarios. The combination of audio, perception and movement makes the robot suitable for demonstrations and educational activities involving audience interaction.
Computing and Power
An eight-core CPU provides computing capacity for movement control, data processing and artificial intelligence algorithms. The robot can run experiments without requiring computations to be offloaded to external systems.
The lithium-ion battery provides approximately 1 hour of operation per charge. A quick-swap battery system helps minimise interruptions during research, educational activities and demonstrations.
Applications
The R1 Air is designed for education, research and technology demonstrations. It can be used to teach programming and robotics, test motion and perception algorithms, and serve as a display feature at trade shows, conferences and industry events.
