Pickup Patterns and Usage

The built-in microphones on camcorders and DSLR cameras typically have an omni-directional pickup pattern, capturing sound equally from all directions. In contrast, the SGM-990+i is a 177mm long directional "zoom" microphone with two switchable sound pickup patterns: "Long" (supercardioid) and "Short" (cardioid). The "Long" setting focuses on distant sound sources, while the "Short" setting is optimized for closer or broader sound fields. Both settings effectively reject unwanted sounds from the sides and rear, providing clear audio capture within a working range of 6 to 12 meters.
