This sturdy metal T-Adapter is designed to attach an SLR or DSLR camera to the rear cell threads of a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope for prime focus photography.
To use, first obtain the appropriate T-Ring for your camera body. Remove the lens from your camera and attach the T-Ring in its place. The T-Ring is camera-brand specific and snaps on like a lens. Next, remove the diagonal and visual back from the rear cell of your telescope. Screw the Celestron T-Adapter onto the rear cell threads until secure. Then, thread the T-Ring and camera onto the T-Adapter. The camera now uses your telescope as a large telephoto lens. The magnification depends on the telescope's focal length. For example, a 300 mm camera lens is powerful, but using an 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope (SCT) at prime focus provides a 2000 mm lens with significant light-gathering capability.
Prime focus photography is popular for short exposure images of terrestrial objects and celestial objects like the Moon. For longer exposures of deep sky objects, it is recommended to use a separate guidescope or off-axis guider along with an equatorial mount.
