The L-eXtreme filter offers a cost-effective alternative, enabling high-quality astronomical imaging even from heavily light-polluted cities.
Filter Characteristics and Compatibility
The L-eXtreme is a dual 7nm narrow bandpass filter designed for use with one-shot color cameras including DSLRs, color CMOS, and monochrome CCD cameras. It isolates the H-Alpha (656 nm) and Oxygen III (496 nm & 500 nm) emission lines, maximizing contrast and signal-to-noise ratio for emission nebulae. This filter is especially effective with fast optical systems such as inexpensive Newtonian telescopes, double-lens ED refractors, and achromats.
Performance and Usage
By significantly attenuating interfering artificial light sources, the L-eXtreme filter allows astrophotography directly from urban areas without the need for large or expensive telescopes. It enables CMOS color cameras to achieve image quality comparable to monochrome CCD cameras. This makes it an excellent choice for astrophotographers living in heavily light-polluted environments or during bright moon phases.
