If you’re an experienced imager, you’ll appreciate taking this portable mount to a dark sky site and enjoying all the conveniences of a larger observatory mount. For beginners, the Advanced VX helps you start imaging and supports your needs for years.
Computerized German Equatorial Mount
The Advanced VX is Celestron’s smallest German equatorial mount with computerized GoTo capability that automatically tracks celestial objects as they move across the night sky. It includes ports for a hand control, autoguider, and two AUX ports for optional accessories. The NexStar+ hand control provides instant access to all mount functions with automatic slewing and menu descriptions, making it easy for any astronomer to master in a few sessions. The mount features a robust tripod with 2-inch diameter steel legs and an extra-wide stance for improved stability.
Payload Capacity
The Advanced VX supports a payload capacity of 13.6 kg, providing a sturdy platform for any Advanced VX optical tube. It can accommodate optional accessories such as StarSense AutoAlign, Focus Motor, finderscopes, and astroimaging cameras. Note that the payload capacity excludes the weight of counterweights.
Dual Saddle Plate
Since early 2019, Advanced VX mounts include a dual saddle plate compatible with both CG-5 and CGE-style dovetails. Switching between saddle plates is simple by moving hand knobs to a different set of holes. This allows use with virtually any optical tube within the weight limit. It is compatible with Vixen format dovetails 100 mm or longer but not compatible with Losmandy D format plates.
Software
Celestron PWI Telescope Control Software
All current Celestron computerized telescopes include Celestron PWI (CPWI), an advanced astronomy software suite co-developed with PlaneWave Instruments. CPWI offers features used on observatory-class telescopes:
- Graphical planetarium interface with PointXP advanced mount modeling, allowing over 100 points in the alignment model for precise pointing and tracking
- Ideal for remote observatories: save and reload alignment and park the telescope
- Complete ASCOM telescope interface for control via third-party software
Starry Night Software
Included is a free download of Celestron’s Starry Night Special Edition Software, providing detailed celestial object information and planning tools for observing or imaging sessions. It also allows telescope control via computer.
