The Celestron StarSense Explorer 10" Dobsonian telescope is designed to perform well even in light-polluted urban environments, allowing you to easily observe Jupiter, Saturn, open star clusters like the Pleiades, double stars such as Alberio, the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, and many other bright celestial objects. When taken to darker skies, this 10" Dobsonian reveals hundreds of additional fascinating deep-sky objects.
Transport is simplified by ergonomic carry handles positioned at the balance points of the optical tube and base. Included dust covers protect the front of the tube and the focuser.
High-Quality Optics for Dazzling Views
This telescope features a large 10" Newtonian reflector optical tube, providing substantial light-gathering capability for detailed views of celestial objects while maintaining portability. Expect sharp, bright views of Jupiter's Galilean moons, cloud bands, and Great Red Spot; Saturn's rings; the gaseous glow of the Orion Nebula; dust lanes in the Lagoon Nebula; and the Andromeda Galaxy. Compared to the StarSense Explorer DX 130 AZ, this 10" Dobsonian offers over 380% more light-gathering area, enhancing views of faint objects.
All mirror surfaces are coated with Celestron's XLT optical coatings, which increase contrast and light throughput for brighter, more detailed views. The mirrors are made from low-expansion optical glass to maintain image quality under varying environmental conditions.
The telescope includes a high-quality 2" Crayford focuser, providing precise, smooth focusing without image shift. It comes with a 2" to 1.25" adapter and a 2" extension tube, allowing use of virtually any 1.25" or 2" eyepiece. A thumbscrew locks in the sharpest focus.

Dock, Launch, Explore
Forget complicated star charts and computerized mounts. Simply dock your smartphone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. After a quick alignment of your phone to the telescope optics, the app generates a list of visible celestial objects. Select an object and follow on-screen arrows to point the telescope. When the bullseye turns green, the object is centered in the eyepiece. The app provides hundreds of audio descriptions and detailed information from its extensive database.
High-Quality Altazimuth Dobsonian Base
The ultra-stable Dobsonian base features large diameter altitude bearings with variable tensioning, Teflon azimuth bearings, and reinforced side panel braces for enhanced stability. The altitude bearings allow smooth vertical motion, and an integrated altitude brake system lets you adjust tension for smooth movement even with slight imbalances.
An ergonomic panning knob on the optical tube enables precise pointing without introducing heat distortion. The telescope can be smoothly adjusted to follow celestial objects as they drift across the sky.
Smartphone Compatibility
The StarSense Explorer system supports most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and newer, and most Android devices running version 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016.
Patented StarSense Sky Recognition Technology
StarSense Explorer uses patented Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA) technology, similar to satellite orientation systems, to match star patterns detected by your smartphone to an internal database, accurately determining the telescope's pointing position. This method is more precise than relying solely on phone gyroscopes and accelerometers, ensuring accurate target visibility in the eyepiece.
