Leave complicated star charts, imprecise planetarium apps, and computerized mounts behind. With StarSense Explorer, locating celestial objects is easier, faster, and more accurate. Within minutes of setup, navigate the sky confidently by placing your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launching the StarSense Explorer app.
After a quick alignment of your phone to the telescope's optics, the app generates a list of currently visible celestial objects. Select an object and follow on-screen arrows guiding your telescope movement. When the target is centered in the eyepiece, the bullseye turns green. Enjoy hundreds of audio descriptions and detailed information about thousands of objects within the app’s extensive database.
High-Quality Altazimuth Base
The stable Tabletop Dobsonian base provides a sturdy foundation. Compact, lightweight, and easy to transport, it is ideal for travel. Its low profile facilitates easier eyepiece access, especially for children. The base can be placed on a stable platform like a table or car hood to raise viewing height. An optional tripod is available for additional viewing options.
Teflon bearings ensure smooth motion in altitude and azimuth. An integrated altitude brake system allows tension adjustment for smooth movement even with slight imbalances. This enables easy tracking of drifting celestial objects.
The optical tube attaches to the base via tube rings and a dovetail bar, allowing ergonomic focuser positioning. The base includes an eyepiece rack to keep extra eyepieces close at hand.
Dazzling Views with Excellent Optics
Featuring a 130mm (5.1") parabolic primary mirror, this telescope gathers ample light to reveal detailed views of celestial objects. Expect sharp, bright views of Jupiter’s Galilean moons, cloud bands, and Great Red Spot; Saturn’s rings; the trapezium in the Orion Nebula; and the Pleiades Open Star Cluster. Subtle details on the Moon, planets, faint galaxies, and nebulae are also discernible.
The telescope includes a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser compatible with 1.25" eyepieces and dust covers for the front of the tube and focuser.
Perfect for City or Dark Sky Observing
Even in light-polluted urban areas, the StarSense Explorer 130mm Tabletop Dobsonian can easily reveal Jupiter, Saturn, bright star clusters like the Pleiades, double stars such as Alberio, the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, and other bright celestial objects.
In darker skies, hundreds of additional fascinating objects become visible. The lightweight telescope includes carry handles for easy transport to observing sites.

Compatible with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and newer, and Android devices running 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016.
Patented StarSense Sky Recognition Technology
StarSense Explorer uses patented technology and your smartphone to precisely determine the telescope’s pointing direction. A Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), similar to those used by satellites, matches star patterns overhead to the internal database for accurate positioning.
Unlike other apps relying solely on phone gyros and accelerometers, StarSense provides precise target visibility confirmation in the eyepiece.

Maintain phone charge all night with the PowerTank Glow 5000 (sold separately), a 2-in-1 accessory featuring a red flashlight and USB power bank. It attaches conveniently to the tabletop Dobsonian base handle for charging during observation.
