They serve as an Arca-Swiss style quick-release plate, eliminating the bulk and complexity of an additional plate. A Wimberley lens foot improves lens handling on conventional tripod heads, such as ball heads, and facilitates easier packing.

Using this replacement foot on your large lens decreases the overall height, lowering the center of gravity to achieve better balance when used on a gimbal head like the Wimberley Head. When using the Sidekick or Sidemount Wimberley Head, replacement feet are useful and sometimes required for optimal gimbal head performance.
