The Chasing M2 S 2.0 Distance Lock Sonar is a multibeam ultrasonic distance-measuring accessory for inspections where an ROV needs to maintain a controlled distance from nearby objects. It measures in four directions and supports both fixed-distance operation and collision avoidance, making it useful around walls, nets, pillars, hulls and other structures.
Four-direction distance measurement
The sonar measures distance forwards, to the left, to the right and below the ROV. Its operating range is approximately 0.25–5 m, with an accuracy of ±25 mm and a resolution of 1 mm. The blind zone is less than 20 cm. This provides proximity information at short range in areas where visual assessment alone may be difficult.
Fixed-distance inspection and collision avoidance
When enabled through the ROV control system, the Distance Lock Sonar can help maintain a selected distance from a structure during inspection or provide automatic collision-avoidance assistance when an obstacle is detected. Maintaining a more consistent distance can be useful when following a hull, wall, net or similar surface for a systematic visual inspection.
Compact sensor for underwater integration
The sonar has an IP68 protection rating and is designed for operation at depths of up to 150 m. The main unit weighs approximately 286 g. The top cover measures approximately 81.3 × 30 mm, and the body measures approximately 79.3 × 55.9 mm. Communication uses TTL. The included mounting bracket and connection cable allow the sensor to be integrated with a compatible ROV.
