Blackmagic Ethernet Switch models are designed specifically for broadcast operations. All network connections are located on the rear panel, allowing for clean, clutter-free cabling. The 820 model features professional front-to-back cooling, 6 fans for redundancy, dual redundant power supplies, and simple routing control. This quiet design is crucial when working in close proximity to equipment, such as in broadcast trucks or mini-racks.
The higher-performance model features 8 independent 100G Ethernet connections via QSFP connectors. These ports are used to connect devices such as the HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G and Blackmagic Cloud Store Ultra, or for SMPTE-2110 networks with ATEM Constellation IP Switches, HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G, and other devices.
The Blackmagic Ethernet Switch 820 also features a dedicated NMOS control Ethernet connection, ensuring that NMOS traffic is separated from video and audio data, allowing for low-latency switching in an SMPTE-2110 IP network. NMOS control is important in SMPTE-2110 systems as it provides a standardized method for discovering, registering, and managing IP devices on the network. When a new SMPTE-2110 device is connected, NMOS automatically recognizes it and makes it available for routing, eliminating the need for manual configuration. Setup is simple and requires no IT expertise.
The Blackmagic Ethernet Switch 820 features 2 redundant PTP clock inputs, enabling precise synchronization of all devices connected to the switch. PTP ensures that all SMPTE-2110 devices share an accurate time reference signal, which is critical for synchronizing video, audio, and data. If the primary PTP clock fails, the second port seamlessly takes over synchronization, which is critical in live production.
