The Metabones Leica R Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Speed Booster ULTRA features an advanced 5 element/4 group optical design incorporating ultra-high refractive index tantalum-based glass. This design enhances sharpness, reduces distortion, and minimizes vignetting for superior image quality.
Compatibility and Sensor Coverage
This Speed Booster allows full-frame Leica R Mount lenses to be mounted on APS-C format Sony E-Mount cameras. It increases the effective angle of view and boosts the maximum aperture by approximately one f-stop, improving low-light performance and enabling shallower depth of field.
By condensing the light projected by full-frame lenses onto the smaller APS-C sensor, the Speed Booster effectively reduces the crop factor from 1.5x to 1.07x, providing a near full-frame angle of view on APS-C cameras.
Build Quality and Mounting
Constructed with precision-machined brass and chrome plating on both the camera and lens sides, the Speed Booster ensures a secure, play-free connection with smooth mounting. The exterior features a black satin finish, and the internal surfaces have a matte-black treatment to minimize internal reflections and maintain optical quality.
The adapter includes a detachable tripod foot compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins, and Photo Clam ball heads for added stability during use.
Functionality Notes
- While the lens physically fits, automatic diaphragm control (AE metering) and other automatic functions are not supported through this Speed Booster.
- It is fully compatible with mirrorless cameras featuring APS-C or smaller sensors. Although it fits Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras, these must be set to Crop Mode to utilize the Speed Booster's functions properly.
- Designed to maintain infinity focus and correct registration distance, it supports lenses with Close Range Correction (CRC) or floating elements without compromising optical quality.
