Sensor and Image Quality
The Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K features a 4/3" sensor capable of capturing up to 4096 x 2160 DCI 4K images at frame rates up to 75 fps. With firmware update 6.6, it supports up to 80 fps in 2.8K raw mode for 4:3 anamorphic and up to 75 fps in 4K raw mode at 2.4:1 widescreen. Slow-motion capture is available up to 120 fps in 2.6K raw for Super16 lenses and cropped Full HD. The camera offers 13 stops of dynamic range and a dual-native ISO up to 25,600 for excellent low-light performance.
Lens Mount and Compatibility
Equipped with an active Micro Four Thirds lens mount, the camera supports lightweight, electronically-controlled MFT lenses. Additionally, with separately available adapters, it can accommodate PL, C, EF, and other lens mounts, expanding creative options.
Recording Formats and Resolutions
- Supports Blackmagic Raw and ProRes 422 codecs with various bit rates.
- Resolutions include 4096 x 2160 (DCI 4K), 4096 x 1712 (4K 2.4:1), 3840 x 2160 (Ultra HD 4K), 2688 x 1512 (Super16 2.6K), and 1920 x 1080 (HD).
- Anamorphic capture options with 4:3 2.8K raw and 2x or 1.33x de-squeeze preview functions.
- Customizable aspect ratios and preset frame guides such as 1:1 and 4:5.
Display and Monitoring
The camera includes a large 5" touchscreen LCD that reduces the need for external monitors. A full-sized HDMI port allows output to larger displays for video village monitoring. The interface is consistent with Blackmagic's URSA Mini cameras, supporting 3D LUTs for monitoring or embedding looks in Blackmagic Raw files.
Storage and Connectivity
- Internal recording to dual card slots: CFast 2.0 and SD/UHS-II.
- USB Type-C port enables recording directly to external drives for extended capture times.
Audio and Controls
Audio inputs include a mini-XLR with phantom power for professional microphones, a 3.5mm jack, and an internal stereo microphone. The camera runs Blackmagic OS and supports Bluetooth remote control.
Power Options
Power the camera using the included Canon LP-E6 type rechargeable battery, the separately available Pocket Battery Grip, or the included power supply. The 6.6 firmware update adds support for the Pocket Battery Grip and a built-in horizon level function.
Software and Build
The camera comes with a license key for DaVinci Resolve Studio, providing advanced post-production capabilities. Its carbon fiber composite body offers lightweight strength and durability suitable for professional use.
