The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 features a next-generation 6K Super 35mm sensor with a resolution of 6144 x 3456 pixels, designed for 2/3” B4 lenses for UHD and HD production. It delivers exceptional low light performance with dual gain ISO ranging from 100 ISO (-12dB) up to 25,600 ISO (+36dB), and offers 13 stops of dynamic range for superior color correction and image detail. The camera uses Blackmagic Generation 5 color science, providing stunning, accurate skin tones and faithful color reproduction with a dynamic 12-bit gamma curve capturing more color data in highlights and shadows.
Lens Mount and Optics
The camera includes a B4 broadcast lens mount optimized for UHD and HD broadcast lenses, featuring par-focal optics that maintain focus during zoom. Full electronic lens control allows adjustment of focus, iris, and zoom via camera controls or remotely. The B4 mount can be swapped with the included EF mount for full-frame 6K recording in Blackmagic RAW (BRAW), enabling digital film quality workflows. Optional PL and F mounts are also available separately, making the URSA Broadcast G2 compatible with virtually all modern lenses.
Recording Formats and Media
URSA Broadcast G2 supports multiple professional file formats including ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, H.264, H.265 (with compression ratios from 60:1 to 285:1 in 10-bit broadcast quality), and Blackmagic RAW (up to 12-bit). Dual CFast 2.0 and dual SD/UHS-II card slots provide flexible media options with non-stop recording capability, automatically switching to the next card when one is full. A high-speed USB-C expansion port allows recording to external USB disks, which are powered by the camera, facilitating easy file transfer and extended recording times.
Versatility and Use Cases
The camera's "3 cameras in 1" design enables it to function as a 4K production camera, a 4K studio camera, or a 6K digital film camera, making it ideal for both traditional broadcast and online streaming applications. It supports UHD and HD workflows, scaling the sensor down to 1080HD for HD production with superior sub-pixel image processing for anti-aliasing and sharpness. The camera is compatible with existing lenses and batteries, simplifying integration into current broadcast systems.
