Use
The polarizing filter is still one of the most commonly used filters in photography. Polarizing filters only allow light of a certain vibration level to pass through. All other light rays are filtered out. This filtering reduces reflections on glass and water surfaces or paint. At the same time, polarizing filters increase color saturation and enhance contrast. Objects behind glass (shop windows, car windows) become visible again. When taking landscape photos, the polarizing filter has its maximum effect at a shooting angle of 90 degrees to the sun. To achieve a uniform effect in the image, the focal length should not be less than 35 or 28 mm in 35mm format due to the uneven polarization of the skylight.
How it works
Circular and linear polarizing filters work on the same principle. Optical grids on the filter foil ensure that only linear light waves reach the lens whose alignment matches that of the grid. In contrast to a linear polarizing filter, the circular polarizing filter has an additional lambda/4 plate. This plate is responsible for ensuring that the linear light rays previously created in the polarizing filter are broken down into all their components and are at an angle of 90 degrees to one another. At the same time, one component is delayed by a quarter of a wavelength. This means that all polarization directions are present again behind the filter. This means that the autofocus problems that often arise with polarizing filters do not occur with circular polarizing filters.
Excellent workmanship
The circular polarizing filter has excellent optical properties. The multi-coated, high-quality glass lens is embedded in a precisely manufactured metal frame. The rotating filter runs precisely and stops at the desired setting. It is transported in a protective cover that protects the filter from harmful UV radiation and thus significantly increases its service life.
