Functionality and Optical Benefits

The 82mm QuartzLine Circular Polarizer Filter from PolarPro reduces reflections and glare by filtering polarized light caused by reflections from nonmetallic surfaces. Sunlight naturally becomes partially polarized when reflecting off electrons in air molecules, creating haze. This filter arranges and filters directionally polarized light perpendicular to reflected light, absorbing much of it. The result is a significant reduction in glare and reflections, with enhanced saturation of skies and foliage.

Circular polarizers differ from linear polarizers by including a quarter wave plate that circularly polarizes the linearly polarized light. This design allows autofocus and exposure functions to operate correctly, which can be disrupted by linear polarizers.

Construction and Coatings

The filter is made from durable quartz glass, providing enhanced strength and optical quality. It features 16 layers of anti-reflection coatings that prevent internal ghosting and reflections, while promoting clarity and accurate color fidelity. These coatings also improve water and oil beading on the surface, facilitating easier cleaning.

The quartz glass is mounted in a brass filter ring with side knurlings. This brass construction prevents jamming, adds strength, and provides a textured grip for easy mounting and removal. The filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect.
