It features a constant maximum aperture of f/4.0, enabling consistent exposure and depth of field control throughout the zoom range, ideal for portraits, sports, and action photography.
Optical Design and Coatings
- Incorporates 21 elements in 15 groups, including two extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements, one Super ED element, two advanced aspherical (AA) elements, and one aspherical element to minimize chromatic aberrations, distortion, astigmatism, field curvature, and spherical aberrations.
- Features Sony's Nano AR coating to reduce flare and ghosting, enhancing contrast and color fidelity in challenging lighting conditions.
- Rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces smooth, pleasing bokeh even when stopped down by two stops.
Autofocus and Stabilization
- Dual linear motor autofocus system with internal focusing mechanism delivers fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance suitable for tracking moving subjects.
- Focus hold buttons (three total) allow manual focus lock at any time.
- Focus range limiter switch enables limiting the focus distance range to reduce hunting and improve autofocus speed.
- Optical SteadyShot image stabilization compensates for camera shake, especially useful at longer focal lengths or slower shutter speeds, and can be combined with in-body stabilization for enhanced effect.
