The Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE is a compact short-telephoto prime lens designed primarily for portrait photography on Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. It can also be used on APS-C models, providing an equivalent focal length of 112.5mm. The lens features a bright maximum aperture of f/1.8, enabling effective low-light performance and enhanced depth of field control for subject isolation.
Its optical construction includes 10 elements arranged in 9 groups, with three ED elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing, and two HRI elements to control spherical aberrations and distortion, resulting in improved sharpness and resolution. Ultra Multi-Coating is applied to lens elements to reduce flare and ghosting, enhancing contrast and maintaining neutral color balance in challenging lighting conditions.
The lens employs an internal focusing mechanism that maintains its physical length and prevents front element rotation during focusing. Autofocus is driven by a linear STM motor, ensuring fast, quiet, and precise focusing performance compatible with Sony camera AF systems. Manual focus override is available for fine adjustments. A custom switch on the lens allows intuitive control over select camera functions, such as aperture selection, with potential for additional features via firmware updates.
