Power O.I.S. lens features a sophisticated optical construction of 14 elements in 9 groups, including 4 aspherical lenses, 1 Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion (UED) lens, and 1 Ultra High Refractive Index (UHR) lens. The UHR lens element uses newly updated glass material with higher transmittance for enhanced natural color reproduction. Panasonic's proprietary nano surface coating minimizes reflections across the entire visible spectrum (380-780 nm), reducing ghosting and flare. A newly adopted light-shielding component further suppresses unwanted artifacts, ensuring clear and sharp image quality.
Versatility and Close-up Capability
This lens covers a versatile focal length range of 12-35mm (equivalent to 24-70mm on 35mm format) with a constant bright aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. It offers a close focusing distance of 0.15 m at the wide end and a maximum magnification ratio of 0.21x at 17mm, surpassing its predecessor's 0.25 m minimum focus and 0.17x magnification. This makes it ideal for detailed close-up photography such as flowers, insects, and table settings.
Autofocus and Image Stabilization
The lens supports smooth and silent autofocus operation compatible with high-speed, high-precision contrast-detection AF systems running up to 240 fps sensor drive. It features a mechanism to suppress focus breathing, beneficial for video recording. The micro-step aperture control enables smooth exposure transitions. Optical Image Stabilization (Power O.I.S.) is integrated into the lens and works in conjunction with compatible camera body stabilization systems (Dual I.S. 2) to provide effective hand-shake correction.
