Sensor and Processor

The Sony A7 IV features a newly developed 33MP Exmor R back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor measuring 35.9 x 23.9 mm. This sensor delivers high clarity, low noise, and vivid color rendering, especially in low-light conditions, with a broad ISO sensitivity range of 100 to 51200 (expandable to 50-204800 for photos). It achieves an impressive dynamic range of approximately 15 stops and supports recording in RAW, JPEG, and 10-bit HEIF formats.

Powered by the flagship BIONZ XR image processor, the camera offers high-speed image processing for fast continuous shooting, advanced autofocus tracking, and 4K video recording. The processor also reduces rolling shutter and motion distortions for clean rendering of moving subjects. The camera supports up to 10 fps shooting with AF/AE enabled and can buffer up to 828 consecutive uncompressed RAW + JPEG frames using a CFexpress Type A card.

Autofocus System

The Fast Hybrid AF system covers approximately 94% of the image area with 759 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection points, providing fast and precise focusing down to -4 EV sensitivity. Real-time Tracking uses AI-based subject recognition considering color, pattern, and distance for accurate focus tracking.

• Real-time Eye AF detects and tracks human, animal, and bird eyes with high accuracy, maintaining focus even if the subject leaves and re-enters the frame.
