Kowa TSN-66S Prominar Spotting Scope
The Kowa TSN-66S Prominar is a compact, lightweight spotting scope designed for nature observation and active outdoor use. Despite its small size and weight of only 1500 g and length of 365 mm (including eyepiece), it delivers a level of detail and clarity typically found in larger, heavier scopes.
It features a 66 mm large fluorite crystal objective lens with advanced optical coatings, providing superior light transmission and virtually eliminating chromatic aberration for natural color reproduction across the entire visible spectrum.
Optical Design and Coatings
- Fluorite crystal lens with ultra-low dispersion properties minimizes chromatic aberration and color fringing.
- Combination of fluorite crystal and Kowa XD lens enhances low-light performance.
- Upgraded Kowa KR coating on the objective lens repels dirt, moisture, and dust.
Body and Build
- Constructed from 100% magnesium alloy for strength, durability, and lightweight portability.
- Fully waterproof and nitrogen-filled to prevent fogging and withstand harsh weather conditions.
- Equipped with a smoothly rotating sunshade to reduce glare and protect the objective lens.
- 72 mm filter thread allows attachment of protective or UV filters without removing the sunshade.
Focusing Mechanism
- Dual focus system with quick focus knob for rapid focusing from infinity to 5 meters in two revolutions.
- Fine focus knob provides precise control for razor-sharp images at high magnifications and during digiscoping.
Eyepiece Compatibility
The TSN-66S body requires a separate eyepiece, compatible with Kowa TE11WZ II (25-60x zoom) or TE-80XW (fixed 35x wide-angle, 80° field of view). Both eyepieces are waterproof and feature a three-position twist-up eyecup for comfortable viewing with or without glasses.
Digiscoping and Accessories
- Compatible with Kowa System accessories including digiscoping adapters for DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, and smartphones.
- Optional extenders (TSN-EX16) increase magnification by 1.6x.
- Astro adapters (TSN-AS1.25K and TSN-AS1.25G) enable use with 1.25" astronomical eyepieces for night sky observation.
- Digiscoping adapters (TSN-PA7A for DSLR, TSN-DA10 for Micro Four Thirds cameras) allow use as a telephoto lens.
- Smartphone adapters provide secure mounting and protection for mobile photography and videography.
