Lens Design and Compatibility
The Pentax SMC PENTAX-FA 50mm f/1.4 Classic Lens is a fast normal-length prime lens featuring a retro design reminiscent of lenses from 50 years ago. It is optimized for full-frame Pentax K-mount cameras but is also compatible with APS-C models, where it provides an approximate equivalent focal length of 75mm. This lens is fully compatible with all K-mount DSLR and film-format cameras, retaining all camera functions.
Optical Features
- Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture for excellent low-light performance and precise depth of field control.
- Eight-blade diaphragm produces soft, natural bokeh from f/1.4 to f/2.8 and minimizes streaking effects of point light sources.
- Minimum focusing distance of 1.5 feet (approximately 0.46 meters) allows close-up photography.
Unique Visual Effects
This lens is intentionally fine-tuned to produce a unique rainbow flare effect when used wide open against strong backlight. By adjusting the relative position of the subject and light source, photographers can control the position and size of the rainbow flare, creating distinctive visual expressions uncommon in modern lenses. To assist in creating this effect, a 49mm neutral density (ND) filter is included.
Build and Design
The lens retains the retro exterior design of the original SMC PENTAX-FA 50mm f/1.4, featuring a black matte finish and a matte-black focus ring. Its compact and portable form factor makes it suitable for street photography, portraiture, and a wide variety of subjects.
