The 39" (100 cm) Rotalux Deep Octabox by Elinchrom is a preferred light shaper for portrait and fashion photography, known for its unique deep octagonal design and flexible component use.
Design and Light Quality
With a depth of 65 cm (25.6"), the deep octabox is significantly deeper than a standard umbrella, providing focused light output, enhanced directional control, minimal spill light, and notable light falloff. It produces a crisp, soft light similar to a beauty dish, adding dimension and facial structure while tightening the light spread.
The octabox allows for customizable light quality by adding or removing its diffusers: using both diffusers yields the softest light; using only the interior diffuser results in sharper contrast; and using no diffuser transforms it into a large reflector with high contrast, long throw, and controllable beam spread.
