Expanding Media Choice for XDCAM EX Family

The Sony MEAD-SD02 adaptor enables the use of consumer SD Card media with Sony's XDCAM EX professional product range, which is originally designed for high-speed SxS PRO and SxS-1 media. This adaptor replaces the MEAD-SD01 and provides a cost-effective and convenient option for additional media in the field where ultimate performance is less critical.

Design and Compatibility

• The MEAD-SD02 adaptor matches the shape of SxS memory cards, allowing it to fit seamlessly into the media slots of XDCAM EX camcorders without protrusions, so the media cover can remain closed during shooting.
• It accepts one SDHC or SDXC Card, which is inserted inside the adaptor.
• Specifically developed for XDCAM EX hardware, it supports recommended Class 10 SDHC cards such as Sony's UX series (SF-16UX, SF-32UX) and SDXC cards of UHS speed class 1.

ExpressCard Form Factor

The adaptor has the form factor of an ExpressCard/34, enabling it to be used in the ExpressCard slot of XDCAM EX equipment as well as other ExpressCard-compatible devices like Windows PCs and Macs.

PC Compatibility

Media recorded on SD Cards via the MEAD-SD02 adaptor with XDCAM EX hardware is fully compatible with PCs without requiring additional drivers. The folder and file structure appears in NLE operation windows or Clip Browser identically to SxS media.

PXU-MS240 Compatibility

The PXU-MS240 240GB HDD backup unit for SxS media supports the MEAD-SD02 adaptor. Users can slot the adaptor with the SD Card into the PXU-MS240 to record content onto the hard drive.

Important Notes

• The adaptor is not compatible with the SBAC-US10.
• Supported devices only officially support SDHC media; operation with SDXC media is not guaranteed.
• Slow Motion recording is not recommended due to speed limitations of SD Card media.
• Reliability is slightly lower than with SxS media; caution is advised when powering off XDCAM EX hardware during recording.
• A firmware upgrade of XDCAM EX hardware may be required to use the MEAD-SD02 adaptor.
