The Sony ECM-W3S wireless microphone system integrates high signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) microphone units into the microphone-transmitter, enabling clear voice recording with minimal noise interference.
High-Quality Dual-Channel Digital Transmission
When connected to a Sony camera supporting the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe, such as the α™ series digital interchangeable-lens cameras or vlog cameras, the dual-channel receiver outputs a digital audio signal directly to the camera body. This allows high-quality sound recording with minimal noise contamination.
Noise-Suppressing Filter Functions
The system features a noise cut filter using digital signal processing to effectively remove persistent background noise for clear recordings. Additionally, a low cut filter on the microphone reduces unwanted low-frequency sounds from wind, air conditioning, and vibrations, minimizing the need for post-production noise removal and improving workflow efficiency.
Multi Interface (MI) Shoe Compatibility
The receiver easily attaches to Sony cameras with the MI Shoe without cables, enabling immediate digital sound acquisition.
Wireless Convenience
The ECM-W3S includes a microphone-transmitter and a dual-channel receiver, allowing wireless capture of up to two speakers' voices. It supports communication up to 150 square meters in clear line-of-sight conditions, utilizing Bluetooth 5.3 (Low Energy) and LC3plus codecs for low power consumption, low latency, and high sound quality. Power-saving design also reduces battery size.
Safety and Attenuator Functions
A safety feature records two audio signals simultaneously: one at normal volume and another 20 dB lower to reduce clipping risk during loud recordings. An attenuator function allows selection of one of three recording levels based on audio volume.
Microphone Audio Input/Output

- 3.5 mm mini jack (stereo) audio output on the receiver side.
This supports use with stereo-compatible lavalier microphones and output to devices without MI Shoe compatibility.
Receiver Stand and Adaptor
A connector protector/stand is included, which can be used as a stand for the receiver or as an adaptor to attach the receiver to smartphone clamps.
USB Digital Audio Output
The receiver outputs digital audio at 48 kHz / 24 bit via USB cable to smartphones, PCs, or USB audio input compatible devices. The receiver's slide switch can be set to ANALOG or DIGITAL depending on the device.
Compact and Lightweight Design
